For gasless welding, E71T-GS or E71T-11 flux core wire in .030 or .035 is the usual choice for small 120V welders. For thicker steel with shielding gas, E71T-1 dual shield wire runs hotter and cleaner.
ER70S-6 is the most common solid MIG wire for mild steel. It has extra deoxidizers for welding slightly rusty or dirty steel and is used with CO2 or 75/25 argon mix.
7018 is a low-hydrogen rod for strong, smooth structural welds; 6011 digs deep and handles dirty or painted steel and AC machines; 6013 is an easy, gentle rod for thin metal and beginners.
Yes. Blue Demon is widely used by hobby and professional welders for consistent wire feeding and good arc stability at a lower price than many big-name consumables.
Keep rods sealed and dry. Low-hydrogen 7018 should go in a sealed tube or rod oven once opened, because moisture causes porosity and cracking.
Use .023–.030 wire for thin sheet metal, .030–.035 for general shop work, and .045 for thick steel on bigger machines.

Honestly, I’ve used enough “bargain” tungsten to know that saving five bucks isn’t worth the contaminated weld. It’s a nightmare. I think that’s why the Blue Demon stuff has such a hardcore following… it’s consistent. You get a box of our E71T-GS flux core and it actually runs smooth without spitting half the spool onto the floor.
Maybe it’s because we actually give a damn about the chemistry in the wire. . . or maybe we just remember what it’s like to be under a truck at midnight with a welder that won’t cooperate..
